  • Caught on camera: Thieves steal car in 60 seconds in Randburg

    CCTV footage of car thieves stealing a high-end V8 Lexus SUV from a Randburg shopping complex has gone viral.

    The high-end car was stolen in 60 seconds

    Sharing the clip online, @VehicleTrackerz said the incident happened in a mere 60 seconds.

    The 2017 Lexus 570LX SUV was stolen by criminals on Tuesday, 25 October, from a parking lot in Randburg.

    In the CCTV footage, two men can be seen approaching the vehicle.

    One of the car thieves approached the passenger side tyre while the second made his way to the driver’s side door.

    The man then jumps into the R1.2 million vehicle and drives off. 

    The Lexus owner shared details of the events leading up to the incident

    The owner of the car stated that he was travelling to Northgate to meet a friend. He pulled off at Nova Bar in Malanshof at around 17:00, reports IOL.

    The unnamed owner explained that he took his laptop out of his vehicle and went upstairs while he waited for his friend.

    “I swear to you, not even 10 minutes later, some guy comes upstairs and asks, ‘Who’s driving the Lexus?’

    “I said it was me. He said they just stole it,”

    said the owner.

    It was located just 15 minutes away from where it was stolen

    The publication stated that 20 minutes later, the car was found in Fairland. This is just 15 minutes away from where it was stolen.

    The vehicle was located by security companies who proceeded to alert the police. SAPS managed to arrest the driver – who was by himself in the vehicle.

    The alleged car thief is expected to appear in court on Thursday, 27 October.
